As a specialist at Battelle, Mr. Powell provided technical expertise for the development of multiple thermal treatment technologies, including Electrical Resistance Heating (ERH) and In Situ Vitrification (ISV), developed at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). Mr. Powell led the deployment of the initial field demonstrations of ERH for both Battelle and Current Environmental Solutions at sites located in Niagara Falls, NY; Dover, DE; Chicago, IL; Anchorage, AK and Fairbanks, AK. He has over 10 years experience in design, installation, and operations of in situ thermal treatment systems. Mr. Powell was also responsible for managing the design, procurement and maintenance of both ERH and ISV equipment.
Mr. Powell's areas of expertise include all aspects of electrical distribution and control, instrumentation, quality control and system configuration management. Mr. Powell has extensive experience characterizing off-gas effluent resulting from thermal treatment applications. Mr. Powell also has extensive experience handling both hazardous wastes and radioactive wastes and the procedures associated with federal government sites.
As project manager, Mr. Powell was directly responsible for the successful removal of DNAPL at an ERH project located in Portland OR. This project presented numerous technical difficulties requiring innovative field modifications.
Mr. Powell's experience also includes projects associated with the protection and control of special nuclear materials located in the former Soviet Union.
