The Department of Defense (DOD) Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) selected fifty-three new projects to begin in fiscal year 2020. The recent ESTCP projects are described here.
TRS Group, Inc. (TRS) is working on three of the recently announced ESTCP projects. Two of the projects are focused on the thermal treatment of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The third project focuses on PFAS water treatment using the PerfluorAd flocculant technology.
- In-Situ Thermal Treatment of PFAS in the Vadose Zone
Target regulatory PFAS soil concentrations can be achieved by heating soils to 400°C. This ESTCP project focuses on applying thermal conduction heating (TCH) in situ for PFAS removal from vadose zone soils.
- Ex-Situ Thermal Treatment of PFAS
Landfills are currently not accepting hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of PFAS impacted waste across the United States. This ESTCP project focuses on applying TCH ex situ in PFAS impacted soil stockpiles.
- Sustainable Firefighting System Cleanout and Rinsate
Treatment Using PerfluorAd
This ESTCP project focuses on PFAS removal from firefighting vehicle rinsate using PerfluorAd, a system that generates a PFAS floc for subsequent filtration.
